Project Description
_Volpicelli Villa
Villa Volpicelli is one of the most evocative villas in Posillipo, due to the uniqueness of its architectural structure, its hanging gardens and its splendid almost 360-degree panoramic view that can be enjoyed from its terraces.
The turreted and crenellated villa is a geomorphic structure whose construction dates back to the early seventeenth century, built upon structures and ruins from the Roman era and watchtowers from the Aragonese period. We find it mentioned in the cartography of Baratta of 1629, and in another from the end of the seventeenth century, as well as in that of the cartographer Miotte who indicates it as a fort kept by the populace in 1649, at the time of the revolutionary uprisings of Masaniello.
The destination of the imposing structure was alternatively that of a manor house and a fortification as well as the site of the Bourbon battery.
Due to the unique characteristics of the view and the exceptional nature of the park overlooking the sea which is terraced over five levels with an English garden and Mediterranean scrub and with a variety of plants of great value, Villa Volpicelli has been the location of important historical and artistic events.
